Well…it finally happened.
The fish brothel has officially expanded into a nursery.
After countless mornings of staring into the community tank muttering, “There weren’t this many yesterday…” and scooping microscopic escape artists into safety with whatever happened to be closest, these little goobers finally have a proper home of their own.
As you’ll see in the video, they’re growing at all different rates. Some are still basically tiny commas with eyeballs, while others are looking like actual little fish with personalities. The floating plants, moss, caves, and general fish toddler chaos seem to be keeping everyone happy, and thankfully the rate of accidental parental cannibalism has dropped dramatically.
A couple of these youngsters are almost ready to join their forever aquariums! Those first graduates are already spoken for as pre-orders, which honestly blows my mind. A few months ago I was wondering how I was going to keep up with all these babies. Now people are actually waiting for them.
For anyone interested in future batches, here’s what I’m doing:

The little discount isn’t because I’m trying to run some elaborate fish empire. It’s because platys are social fish, and they really do better when they have friends. If the price nudges someone toward taking home a proper little school instead of a lonely single fish, then everybody wins—especially the fish.
Now, for my fellow platy breeders…
If you purchase five juvenile platys, I’ll happily include up to 20 newborn fry at no additional charge if you’d like to start or expand your own breeding project. Trust me…once these little idiots get going, you’ll understand why I have an entire nursery dedicated to them.
I still don’t consider myself an expert. I’m learning as I go, making plenty of mistakes, celebrating tiny victories, and laughing at the fact that one apparently rare white panda platy and her tuxedo red boyfriend have completely taken over my fish room.
The best part has been watching healthy little fish grow from nearly invisible specks into colorful, energetic platys ready for new homes. It’s incredibly rewarding.
Since we moved into the new house these fish have gotten an upgrade too. A larger dedicated nursery, separate breeding tanks, and a proper community tank where everyone can just…you know…exist without immediately trying to repopulate the planet.
At least that’s the plan.
Knowing these fish, they’ll probably have another forty babies before I’m done with this post.
