At 2 a.m., my sweet partner bundled my son and me into the car and drove us to the airport while most sensible people were still asleep. By sunrise, we were headed toward Shreveport, Louisiana — the place where I grew up and a place that still feels like home no matter how many years pass
There is something about coming back here that settles my soul. Seeing my beautiful childhood home again, driving familiar roads, and spending time with family never gets old. Louisiana has a way of wrapping itself around your heart and refusing to let go.
But today’s visit came with something extra special.
Today, my darling dad handed me the keys to this beautiful truck.

Not loaned. Not borrowed.
Given.
And I don’t think words can adequately explain what that means to me.
Sure, it’s a gorgeous Toyota Tacoma, and I absolutely adore it. But this truck represents so much more than metal, tires, and horsepower. It represents love. It represents generosity. It represents a father wanting to pass along something he treasures to his daughter. Every time I sit behind the wheel, I know I’ll be carrying a piece of him with me wherever the road leads.
And honestly? I couldn’t stop smiling.
After an incredibly long, emotional, wonderful, and thoroughly exhausting day, my son and I are now relaxing downtown at Sam’s Town, a gaw-geous hotel and casino overlooking the Red River. The beds are calling, but not quite yet.
First, a light meal and some drinks with my son who i never get to spend enough quality time with.
Then I intend to spend some more quality time in that bitchin’ wedge-shaped pool that has already captured my heart.
And then…
Bed.
Glorious, beautiful, uninterrupted bed.
Tomorrow will bring more family, more memories, and eventually the long drive back to Florida in my new-to-me truck, with a special stop in Destin to see my precious little grandbaby Maisie, my daughter and son-in law! But tonight, I’m simply overwhelmed with gratitude.
Thank you, Dad.
For the truck.
For the memories.
For bringing me home again.
And for giving me something that I’ll cherish every mile of the way.
“Sometimes the greatest gifts aren’t things at all. They’re love, memories, and the people who hand you the keys with a smile.” ❤️🚙🥂🌙
