I finally posted the Prosecco blog post.
It only took me… six days.
That innocent little post, originally written on the 21st, somehow became the catalyst for one of the most frustrating debugging sessions I’ve had in a long time. Instead of sharing a glass of bubbly and celebrating a productive day, I discovered my website had decided that deep links were apparently optional. Every journal entry worked perfectly if you clicked through the site, but try to visit one directly and… 404.
Cue several days of me chasing a bug—now affectionately known as Mr. Munshun—who somehow managed to hide itself and gaslight me and return failed git runs while insisting everything was working while my website enthusiastically proved otherwise.
Code can be such a bitch.
The annoying part is the solution wasn’t even some impossible, once-in-a-lifetime bug. It was one of those problems that, once you finally find it, makes you sit back and wonder how you managed to miss something that obvious. I still feel like an idiot.
But…
I fixed it.
Not with a workaround.
Not by pretending it was “good enough.”
I fixed the root cause.
Every journal entry, gallery, and deep link now loads exactly the way it should.
So while the Prosecco post sat unpublished for nearly a week, it ended up doing me a favor. It forced me to fix a problem that would have haunted every future post I published.
Sometimes the code wins.
This time…
I made the code my bitch.
Today deserves the spotlight anyway.
After the week I’ve had, I officially declared tonight a recovery mission.
The bubbles are back, but this time they’re in the bathtub instead of the wine.
The Prosecco has been replaced with a glass of Freakshow Cabernet.
Evil Dead is playing on the tablet.
The bathroom looks like a tropical greenhouse now, which somehow makes soaking in a tub feel like an expensive spa instead of hiding from adulthood.
Then came the unexpected MVP of the evening.
Apparently, during one of my “order everything because future me will appreciate it” shopping sprees, I bought enough Dr. Teal’s products to stock a small pharmacy. Buried among them was a bag of rosemary and mint Epsom salts.
Whoever invented this stuff deserves a hug.
Between my aching muscles and this absolute motherfucker of a headache I’ve been dragging around all day, that rosemary and mint might actually qualify as modern medicine.
Today wasn’t relaxing, though.
It was productive.
The mountain of moving boxes keeps getting smaller.
My bedroom closet is finally organized instead of looking like a storage unit exploded.
Family photographs are hanging on the walls now.
It doesn’t feel like we’re just living in a new house anymore.
It finally feels like our house.
There were harder moments too.
Blitz’s tremors reminded me once again that time doesn’t care how much we love someone.
Today I ordered her urn.
Her shadow box.
Her paw print kit.
Those are purchases nobody ever wants to make.
I showed everything to my mom first.
She approved, and somehow that mattered more than I expected.
I’ve needed my mom a lot these past few days.
Believe it or not…
She’s been my rock.
Sometimes no matter how old we get, we still need our mom.
Dinner was fantastic.
Cooking in this new kitchen still feels like a privilege.
I even put together a nice, romantic spread.
Meanwhile, the love of my life was sitting across from me…
…playing video games under the table.
Directly.
In.
My.
Face.
I’m choosing to believe that’s his love language.
And since we’re celebrating victories…
No broken windows were harmed during today’s golf practice.
I’m actually not terrible at this.
I still have a long way to go before anyone mistakes me for a professional, but I can already tell why people fall in love with this game.
Call me…
7 Dust.
The 7-iron and I seem to understand each other.
Life is still heavy.
There are medical appointments.
Code that occasionally needs to be reminded who’s in charge.
A beloved old dog whose time with us grows shorter every day.
Boxes that still need unpacking.
A headache that could probably be seen from space.
But tonight I’m choosing bubbles over burnout.
Cabernet over chaos.
Rosemary and mint over muscle pain.
And for just a little while…
I’m going to let Evil Dead do the screaming for me. 🍷🛁
