You Have to Earn the Prosecco

July 21, 2026

People love posting the bubble bath.

The candles.
The wine.
The relaxing music.
The perfect little aesthetic moment.

What they don’t usually show is everything that came before it.

Today wasn’t glamorous.

Today was work.

The kind of work nobody applauds because it disappears the moment it’s finished.

I wrestled with making our split-king Nectar bed—which, for nearly three thousand dollars, should honestly wake up every morning and make its own damn self. Instead, it put up a fight like it always does, but victory was mine.

Then I vacuumed the bedroom.

Hooked up our home speaker system so now music can follow us from room to room like the soundtrack our new home deserves.

Then came the master bathroom.

Not just a quick wipe-down.

I mean deep cleaned.

The shower.

The sinks.

The mirrors.

The floors.

The bidet, y’all.

Even the bidet.

Then I mopped the whole thing until it practically sparkled. My wrists were starting to complain by then, but they were overruled.

The kitchen wasn’t getting off easy either.

Counters were decluttered.

Brand-new pots and pans finally found their homes.

Flatware organized.

Even my crock pots for making homemade dog food now have a proper place.

Then I swept.

Then I mopped.

Because apparently I woke up today and chose violence against dirt.

I wiped down the glass coffee table and end tables until they actually looked like glass again.

I put fresh flowers in a vase.

Lit a fall-scented candle.

Because if Florida insists on feeling like it’s 145 bloody degrees outside, I’m going to aggressively pretend it’s October anyway.

Then came the litter boxes.

If you know me, you know…

We have enough cats that this is less of a chore and more of a full-scale sanitation project.

Fresh litter for everybody.

Happy cats.

Questionable life choices.

After all of that?

I tackled several loads of my son’s laundry.

Let’s be honest.

Those clothes deserved to know what being folded feels like at least once in their lifetimes.

By this point my back was screaming.

Not politely.

Not subtly.

The kind of screaming that reminds you you’re fifty-something and maybe shouldn’t try to clean half the house in one day.

So I finally ran the bath.

Lavender bubbles.

Candles.

Relaxing music filling the house through the speakers I had just installed.

Then….

I got a notification on my phone from Amazon.

My delayed package had finally arrived.

Fifteen pounds.

Fifteen glorious pounds of individual Dr. Teal’s bath salts.

Reader…

I practically tackled the box.

Ripped that bitch open.

Grabbed the Arnica Epsom Salt.

Poured a generous amount into the water without even pretending to measure.

OH. MY. GOD.

If you’ve never soaked sore muscles in Dr. Teal’s Arnica, I’m convinced you’re missing one of life’s greatest simple pleasures.

So here I sit.

Writing this post on my phone from the tub.

Muscles relaxing.

Glass of my favorite La Marca Prosecco Rosé in hand.

Looking around a bathroom that is absolutely spotless because I made it that way.

It feels different when you’ve earned it.

Later tonight my partner and I are continuing our StarWars marathon with Attack of the Clones. It’s my favorite one.

He sits through Stephen King marathons with me—even when they guarantee him weird dreams and sleep deprivation.

The least I can do is happily spend an evening in a galaxy far, far away with him.

Besides…

I genuinely love Star Wars.

I mean…

Who doesn’t?

Today wasn’t exciting enough for social media.

Nobody will see how many times I bent over.

How sore my wrists are.

How many trips I made carrying laundry.

How many buckets of mop water I dumped.

But I’ll know.

And every time I walk through this house tonight, smelling those fresh flowers, hearing music drift from room to room, watching candlelight dance across clean countertops and polished floors…

I’ll remember something important.

Sometimes self-care isn’t the bubble bath.

Sometimes self-care is creating a home that gives you peace the moment you walk through the door.

The bubble bath…

The candlelight…

The prosecco…

Those are simply the reward.

And tonight?

I earned every sparkling sip. 🥂
